Addressing Salinization in Coastal Soil Ecosystems Affected by Saline Intrusion/Irrigation
Rising global temperatures, coupled with the melting of ice stocks and snow covers, are leading to an increase in sea level. This rise is having severe consequences on groundwater, making it more saline. In coastal areas, seawater intrusion during irrigation can threaten biodiversity and reduce crop yields. This process also leads to increased salinity in nearby water bodies due to leaching of salts. Soils in coastal areas are particularly susceptible to salinization, with affected regions being arid and semi-arid parts of Australia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe. It is estimated that global soil salinization will continue to spread at a rate of up to 2 Mha per year.
United Nations Foundation- Sustainable development Goals (SDG)
Salicrop values the United Nations' sustainable development goals (SDGs) in shaping our own sustainability strategy. Our innovative seed enhancement techniques increase crop yield and resilience, while preserving soil health and biodiversity. We collaborate with independent partners to ensure our sustainability efforts align with the SDGs and global standards. Sustainability is a core value that guides all of our actions.

Mitigating the effects of climate change on agriculture, which have resulted in lower crop yields and nutritional quality due to heat waves
Increasing yield for farmers under stress conditions can have a significant impact on their livelihoods and well-being. Stress conditions, such as drought, extreme temperatures, soil salinity, and other environmental factors, can severely limit crop production and lead to economic losses for farmers.
By increasing yield, farmers can improve their income and food security. Higher yields mean more crops to sell or consume, which can generate more income and reduce the risk of food shortages. This can also help farmers to improve their quality of life, such as having better access to healthcare and education for themselves and their families.
Additionally, increasing yield can help farmers to cope with the effects of climate change. As the climate continues to change, stress conditions are likely to become more frequent and severe. By increasing yield, farmers can become more resilient to these conditions, and better able to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
